Elliptical Training Vs. Running?

I have been a runner my whole life and have recently moved up to 6-8 miles a day.
However I have been having some problems lately with my knee because of the increased mileage. I’m not hurt yet, but I decided to try the elliptical machine instead.

I was just wondering what is the comparison between an elliptical and treadmill? I have went on the elliptical for 35 minutes at level 25..and have definitely gotten my heart rate up! The calories burned say almost more than when I run.. so I’m wondering if those are very accurate or if there was a knowledgable website that would let me know the comparison between ellipticals and actual running.

Elliptical machines vs. running?

does the elliptical machine actually do anything as a workout? i mean, i feel like i’m not doing that much work and not getting a great workout.

yesterday, i was on the elliptical machine for one hour. the machine said i was going at 9-10 min/mile. so i finish around 6.5 miles for the hour. afterwards, i was drenched in sweat, but i didn’t feel really tired. my legs were slightly tired and my breathing was not heavy nor struggling. but when i run outside, i am only able to run about 2 miles and then at the end i am usually gasping and struggling for air. my legs would feel like jello and i would feel like crashing to the ground and passing out to relax. and for the 2 miles, i would be going around at a 9-10 min mile pace.

would that be more of a fat burning regimen or a toninh regimen?

Elliptical?
If I were to go on an elliptical Daily for 30 minutes a day….would that be more of a fat burning regimen or a toninh regimen? I am looking for something to help me lose the weight I gained when I quit smoking 3 months ago………
The elliptical can be as effective as the treadmill, without the shock to your joints that running can produce.

I have recently started as a member at the fit zone and I love the elliptical. I would love to but one for home, but have no idea what one to get. I don’t want to spend alot because I just want something for when I can’t make it to the gym or when I work late. If anyone has bought one and knows where ot get a one for a couple hundred or less please let me know and let me know what cheap ones are crap so I don’t get one THANKS

Elliptical, how many minutes a day do i do?
i just recently got a elliptical and i never used one b4. i wanna know how many minutes a day do i do? and if its to hard to do the minutes straight in a row can i break them up like 2 here and 3 there until they add up?

The elliptical is actually easier than running. It is low impact and you can watch TV, read, or do other things while doing it.
Start out with 20 min workouts on the easiest level. Go to a higher level before you add more time. Any exercise is good, but you will be the most benefits from at least one session per day where you get your heart rate up and make yourself sweat.

the elliptical from my husband,would that help me lose weight ?

for xmas i got the elliptical from my husband i had been wanting one for a long time now since i really can’t get to the gym, i have 2 kids and i am trying to lose the extra weight i gained with my 2nd child he is going to be 1 in jan, now my question is i just started using the elliptical this week, and i have been eating nothing but chicken and vegetables and drinking water from when i first wake up in the morning.. my question to all is since i just started doing the elliptical i have started off by only doing it 20 min at night like an hour or 2 after dinner, do is that sufficient, i mean would that help me lose weight ? or do i have to do more?
